Fieldtone is the imprint of instrument designer Hugh Jones who’s journey from musician and engineer (for the likes of Matthew Herbert & Thom Yorke) to instrument maker, is driven by a passion for creating tools that inspire “happy accidents” and new ways of interacting with sound.

Fieldtone’s products stem from a creative ethos centred on exploration, randomness, and surrendering control in favour of chance and improvisation. The Weaver sampler, with its fixed two-second loop and single knob that generates endlessly evolving rhythms and textures, embodies this philosophy by encouraging users to embrace chance and forward motion in their music. Likewise, the Box of Uncertainty is crafted as a characterful granular sampler that invites improvisation and experimentation without menus, presets, or conventional controls, making unpredictability a core part of the musical experience.
